Our Mission: To create a free wireless network covering the KOSH Area.

What is a Wireless Users Group (WUG)?

A Wireless User Group (WUG) is a group of citizens with the aim of interconnecting a network of computers using "Wi-Fi" technology. What sets a WUG apart from other similar networks is the fact that it is and will stay free and is entirely owned by the group. This makes sure that no one person benefits financially from the group.

Typical uses include: IRC, VOIP, Email, file sharing, Internet sharing and games although for most people the greatest benefit is the knowledge and experience you gain. Please note that we do not sell Internet access.

Current status of things?

See this MAP of nodes in Klersdorp Northen Suburbs or as on Jurie's Web Site. It is just an indicative map and not the actual radio coverage. Currently a lot of the nodes consist of Canyons but Linksys WRT54G models are recommended for new members... the Linksys WRT54GL being the prefered model.

Brenda is the first member with a Linksys router which has successfully being upgraded with much superior firmware enabling it to change the transmit power, making WDS possible and lots more thus increasing its value significantly... and that on the lowest costs version 5 model of the WRT54G range.

A number of IP video cameras have been installed as an experimental neighbourhood watch surveillance system. This snapshot is a view from Jurie's Home Office and is uploaded every 10 minutes. Rotating amongst six timed interval pictures gives a record of events in the last hour.
